Brackenhurst Winter
TREC
Competition
The first WHTG Winter Indoor
TREC of
the 06/07 Perfect Partners series was very well attended in both the
Open and Newcomers sections, with over 50 competitors testing their PTV
and Paces skills indoors at Brackenhurst College. The course was
dressed with a hallowe'en theme, but the obligatory teddybears also put
in an appearance - this time choosing to picnic underneath a
jump!
Results. There are
rosettes for all
competitors. They will be sent along with scoresheets to competitors
who did
not collect them. If not already done so, please send an A5 SAE
to Sarah
Thurnell at 43 Bentinck Drive, Clowne, Chesterfield S43 4SS.
Thank you to everyone who gave
up
their time to help with judging and building/taking down the course.

Easingwold TREC Results
Once again the weather was kind to this event (apart
from the
traditional downpour during the course walk!), the first organised by
the Bean family who did a fantastic job. The routes in the Vale of York
were challenging and scenic, providing an enjoyable POR for both
levels.
The PTV course, set around the Thornton Lodge UK Chasers
course was over 2km long, allowing the horses to really have a good
blast between obstacles!
You can view the results here - level 1 and level 2A.

Well done to everyone who took
part,
especially those new to TREC and the more experienced competitors who
tried the grid reference and bearings sections of the 2A class for the
first time.
I was glad to see so many
smiling
faces at the end - hopefully this competition has whetted all the
newcomers' appetites to do some more!
I hope I managed to speak to
everyone in person, but thank you to all who helped with judging and
with demolishing the course - I really appreciated you giving up your
time.
Sarah, the competitor who fell
off
on course, has broken her arm and a few bones in her wrist but is OK
overall - she has asked me to pass on her thanks to everyone who looked
after her and her pony.

Robin Hood BHS TREC
Results and Report
Level
1 Results
Level 2 and 3 Results
Clumber Park –Everyone enjoyed the technical but steady
off-road routes through the woods and parkland, including a lovely ford
crossing in Hardwick village for the Level 2 and the Level 3 grid
references around Bothamsall and Crookford Hill. Level 2 POR saw
several people coming into finish by wrong route, perhaps losing their
concentration a bit after three hours of riding!
The Level 1 route from Danethorpe tested the fledgling
Trec
riders' map reading skills to the full, but with plenty of
opportunities for them to correct their own mistakes without losing too
many points.
PTV – Ridden ditch caused problems for all levels but
the
course at Danethorpe Hill rode well and gave all riders and horses a
chance to have some fun and test their skills over a wide variety of
obstacles!

Level 1 Individual winner Sarah Whiteley is an
experienced
endurance rider from Derbyshire having her first ever attempt at BHS
Trec. She says she’ll definitely be doing more! Her excellent POR
score gave her an unbeatable lead and she also achieved the best PTV
score in the Individual class. As part of the sponsorship from
Equestrian Life magazine she won a free year’s subscription to the
magazine.
Level 1 Pairs winners were
mother
and daughter Jackie & Harriet Deeming from Rotherham. This
was their first full BHS Trec, Harriet had previously been placed at
the WHTG Indoor Trec at Doncaster this winter. Second were WHTG
regulars Mandy Morris & Wendy Smith who led the POR phase. Third
were Nic Bunting and Jenny Haydock, both from Derbyshire, with high
scores in all three phases.
The Blue Chip sponsored Level 2 Individual class was won by Kathryn
Bean from York on her young Highland pony Tower Harry. Kathryn
put the experience she gained riding at the Portugese Trec
Championships last autumn to good use here, and is long-listed for the
GB Young Rider squad for the European Trec Championships this coming
September. Second was Jackie Bennett from Belper with her promising new
horse Bradley.
Local rider Rachael
Wilmot and her regular Trec partner Isobel France from Worcestershire
put up their usual strong performance to win the Level 2 Pairs by a
wide margin. Newcomers Louise Berrisford and Andrea Leonard
scored well to finish second, with local duo Sally Beard and Tina Lowe
winning both the Control of Paces and PTV sections to make up the
ground they lost on the POR on day one.
Natural Expressions Photography generously donated a voucher to Vanessa
Warren, the winner of a highly competitive Level 3 Individual
class. With the entry list made up of half of the long
listed riders for the GB senior team, one rider commented it looked
more like a championship than an early season warm up event!
Vanessa made the long trip from Somerset with her novice horse
Clarissa. In the final placings on Sunday, local riders Lynne
Mabbitt and Alison Elmer finished second and third, with just three
points separating them. Competition was fierce throughout the
weekend, with Derbyshire rider Hilary Stephens comfortably winning the
POR phase at Clumber Park. Hilary and Vanessa both competed at
the 2005 Portugese Trec Championships, where Hilary led the senior POR
section on a hired stallion and Vanessa finished second overall.
The Level 3 Pairs was won convincingly by long-distance duo Jane Scott
from Kent and Lesley Benyon (Shropshire), beating Claire Pollard and
her youngest daughter Alice from Northamptonshire, who both rode roan
ponies.
Winners of the special rosettes are
as follows:
Pony Riders Association rosette for
highest scoring rider aged 18 or over on
pony under 15 hands:
L1 Amanda Renshaw & Billy , L2 Rachael Wilmot & Grindle ,
L3 Maddy Jacob & Taffenchan Princess
Young Rider rosette for
highest
scoring rider aged 16 to 21 years
L1 Rebecca Bartram & Simply Sky, L2 Kathryn Bean & Tower
Harry , L3 Alex Wells & Toffee
Junior rosette for highest
scoring
rider aged under 16 years
L1 Harriet Deeming & Cheeky Chino, L2 No eligible
riders , L3 Alice Pollard & Lady
This year's
Robin Hood Competition
featured Robin Hood aka Maddy Jacobs riding around
Clumber Park looking for those elusive merry men that she left
somewhere in Sherwood forest...
The routes for all levels were
superb - thanks to Sarah Thurnell and Alex Wells the traceurs, and to
all who helped out and made this event enjoyable for all the
competitors.

available to view and buy from the Natural
Expressions website - click events, then choose your level.

Brooksby Indoor TREC
Results
Although the recent appalling weather meant that the
turnout
was lower
than anticipated, a good day's entertainment was had by all, and the
course was opened up for schooling rounds after the competition had
finished. This was the warmest WHTG Indoor event yet, which pleased our
judges and helpers (to whom we are extremely grateful) no end!
Results are available here (sheet

Another very cold day, and

good day overall. Entries are being taken now for our next competition

Fun for all at the TREC
awards ball!
Yet again a great party was had, to celebrate another
wonderful year of TREC and many WHTG members received well deserved
prizes from Nicola (SEIB Marketing Manager) for the 2005 SEIB TREC
League, as well as many more who were there to applaud, let their hair
down and catch up with friends who are often only seen during the
season. True to form, the saturday night was spent dancing away
merrily, after not-enough wine, and the difference a posh frock and a
bit of make-up can make to a bunch of usually-grimy Treccies has to be
seen to be believed!
WHTG 2005 League Acheivements include:
"The Dog's B*ll*cks"
Nigel
Robinson & Ian Macalinden L3/4 Pairs 1st
Rachael Wilmot L1/2
Individual 1st
"The Chestnuts" Dave &
Sheila Rogerson L3/4 Pairs 3rd
Sally Beard & Tina Lowe
L1/2 Pairs 5th
Diane Gillings L1/2

First WHTG Winter TREC
a
great success!
On Sunday 22nd January 2006,
WHTG
ran one of the first few competitions in the Kelly
Marks Perfect Partners BHS TREC Winter Series at Brackenhurst
College in Southwell, Nottingham.
The competition was very well
supported in both the Newcomers and Open sections, and the equines
ranged from tiny exmoors to 17.2hh coloured sporthorses with
everything in between, and a wide variety of tack and riding styles in
use which was great to see. Some real talent for the future was spotted
competing for the first time in the Newcomers class, and at the end of
the day there were lots of big smiles on people who've now been bitten
by the TREC bug.
Thank you to all who competed
and
helped, and we hope to see you again in the near future at Doncaster
(which is now full but please come along to support your friends or
lend a hand).
Results are available here.
Photographs of the event are
available from Patrick Stubbs at www.naturalexpressions.co.uk,
go to 'Online Ordering' and 'Events'. A discount applies
to all products until 28th January.
